This is very much an event for activists from across the ‘democratic resistance’. A part of the proceedings will be devoted to what we can do practically to organise against this sombre background of an ever deepening crisis in our democracy, government and economy. Bookings are already coming in so act early!

More than 1,000 messages asking for ID cards have flooded into the Home Office.

Over the last two years, 1,142 out of 3,073 pieces of correspondence to government on the biometric cards have been classified as “wants an ID card”, according to Home Secretary Jacqui Smith.

Smith revealed the figures in a recent parliamentary written answer where she added that the cards appear to be growing in popularity.

“From October 2007 to September 2008, the number one theme every month, accounting for by far the most common subject matter, has been ‘wants an ID card’,” she said.

For those that find what is outlined in “Stars & Stripes” to be nothing more than a variant of science-fiction; might I suggest that the world has been watching what will soon be our fate now, since 1948. That would be the Petri-dish of ‘Israel’ in Palestine that was created by Zionists as a run-up to what is about to finally happen here, now that the military-political-kinks have mostly been worked out.

The fact that Americans have paid almost no attention to what has happened and continues to happen in-and-to Palestine; is perfect for those that created that ongoing nightmare that exceeds all that has ever been human or civil, not-to-mention that this oppression breaks all the rules of the Geneva Conventions and the International Rules of War.

Last weekend, that heroically diligent US meteorologist Anthony Watts noticed that something very odd had happened to the daily updated graph on the official Nansen website that shows how much sea-ice there is in the Arctic. Without explanation, as he reported on his Watts Up With That website, half a million square kilometres of ice simply vanished overnight.

This might have brought cheer to all those, such as Al Gore and the BBC, who have been obsessively telling us that the Arctic ice will soon disappear altogether. They were dismayed enough last winter when, after reaching its lowest point in 30 years, the ice bounded back to near “normal”. This winter the freeze has been even faster and greater, making the extent of the ice, according to the other main Arctic website, Crysophere Today, 500,000 sq km greater than this time last year. How better to maintain the chosen narrative than to lose that half-million square kilometres simply by “adjusting” the graph downwards?

The government has been accused of trampling on individual liberties by proposing wide-ranging new powers for bailiffs to break into homes and to use “reasonable force” against householders who try to protect their valuables.

Under the regulations, bailiffs for private firms would for the first time be given permission to restrain or pin down householders. They would also be able to force their way into homes to seize property to pay off debts, such as unpaid credit card bills and loans.

The government, which wants to crack down on people who evade debts, says the new powers would be overseen by a robust industry watchdog. However, the laws are being criticised as the latest erosion of the rights of the householder in his own home.

“These laws strip away tried and tested protections that make a person’s home his castle, and which have stood for centuries,” said Paul Nicolson, chairman of the Zacchaeus 2000 Trust, a London-based welfare charity. “They could clearly lead to violent confrontations and undermine fundamental liberties.”

The 33-year-old woman fled to Ireland with her son in a bid to prevent social services taking him back into care. The British authorities maintain the boy suffered “emotional harm” while witnessing his father’s violent rages against the mother and needs to be placed with a foster family.

But his mother, who has separated from the father, says social workers have never argued that she posed a danger to him and therefore have no case against her.

Devon social services are going to an Irish court in the next few weeks with an international warrant demanding the return of the child, who cannot be identified and is known as Boy L, into their care.

The Hokey Cokey is an old novelty song that has been sung in music halls, at children’s parties and at sherry-fuelled family gatherings for many years.

But according to the Catholic Church and some Scottish politicians, singing the popular tune that begins with the words “You put your right hand in, your right hand out,” may constitute an act of religious hatred.

A spokesman for the leader of the church in Scotland said the song had disturbing origins.

Critics claim that Puritans composed the song in the 18th century in an attempt to mock the actions and language of priests leading the Latin mass.

Now politicians have urged police to arrest anyone using the song to “taunt” Catholics under legislation designed to prevent incitement to religious hatred.

Police officers have been forced to attend a health and safety seminar to learn how to climb a ladder.

The officers had been installing roadside electronic speed indicators for months, using a 3ft ladder, without injury or incident.

But when health and safety officials learnt of the scheme they ordered the special training.

Officers were then banned from moving the signs between locations until they had completed the course.

Around 45 officers and more than 80 civilian volunteers have now had the training, organised by the police, Lancashire County Council and Lancashire Fire and Rescue.

Last night MPs reacted with disbelief, saying the scheme was a waste of taxpayer money and police time.

A senior police officer said: ‘It is a preposterous waste of police time and taxpayers’ money and it is time the health and safety Gestapo had their wings clipped so that people can go about their jobs using their own common sense.’
