Every square inch of available ground in Todmorden is being dug up and turned into a vegetable plot.

Red-ribbed chard decorates the kerbside of A646 to Halifax and fruit trees are thriving in dustbins in the backyards of artisans’ cottages. Even floral displays, which once helped the town take second place in Britain in Bloom in the small-town class, have given way to edible plants. Commuters passing through its tiny station are urged to bring scissors to crop herbs from planters on the platform.

Mary Clear, Todmorden’s community development worker and a founder of the “Incredible Edible Todmorden” project, said: “Why pay the supermarket £1 when you can have it fresh for free?”

Sir Fred Goodwin, the man who took the Royal Bank of Scotland to the brink of collapse, tonight defiantly rejected the Government’s call for him to give up part of a gold-plated pension deal worth almost £700,000 a year.

After a day of mounting political pressure, Sir Fred sent a letter to Lord Myners, the City minister, in which he says that the decision to top up his pension pot when he left RBS late last year was approved by the Government.

His decision means that the Treasury will have to follow through on a threat to take legal action against Sir Fred if it wants to “claw back” the money, as Gordon Brown suggested today.

The row over Sir Fred’s pension came as RBS posted a £24.1 billion pre-tax loss for last year - the biggest in UK corporate history and largely the result of the disastrous decision to buy the Dutch bank ABN Amro in 2007.

Gordon Brown will deliver an address to both Houses of Congress when he visits Washington next week, it was announced today.

The invitation represents a considerable coup for Brown, who will become only the fifth British prime minister to deliver a speech to a joint sitting of both Houses of the US legislature.

The speech – almost certain to focus on the global financial crisis – will bolster his claim to be a world leader in economic affairs.

Funny i could have sworn I saw an article today about how Gordon Brown was Bankrupting Britain!

Ah yes, see here…

Congressman Charles A. Lindbergh, Sr. revealed the Bankers Manifesto of 1892 to the U.S. Congress somewhere between 1907 and 1917.

We (the bankers) must proceed with caution and guard every move made, for the lower order of people are already showing signs of restless commotion. Prudence will therefore show a policy of apparently yielding to the popular will until our plans are so far consummated that we can declare our designs without fear of any organized resistance.

Organizations in the United States should be carefully watched by our trusted men, and we must take immediate steps to control these organizations in our interest or disrupt them.

At the coming Omaha convention to be held July 4, 1892, our men must attend and direct its movement or else there will be set on foot such antagonism to our designs as may require force to overcome.

This at the present time would be premature. We are not yet ready for such a crisis. Capital must protect itself in every possible manner through combination (conspiracy) and legislation.

The courts must be called to our aid, debts must be collected, bonds and mortgages foreclosed as rapidly as possible.

When, through the process of law, the common people have lost their homes, they will be more tractable and easily governed through the influence of the strong arm of the government applied to a central power of imperial wealth under the control of the leading financiers.

People without homes will not quarrel with their leaders. History repeats itself in regular cycles. This truth is well known among our principal men who are engaged in forming an imperialism of the world. While they are doing this, the people must be kept in a state of political antagonism.

The question of tariff reform must be urged through the organization known as the Democratic Party, and the question of protection with the reciprocity must be forced to view through the Republican Party.

By thus dividing voters, we can get them to expend their energies in fighting over questions of no importance to us, except as teachers to the common herd. Thus, by discrete actions, we can secure all that has been so generously planned and successfully accomplished.

Sounds kind of familiar doesn’t it?

‘Citizens will have to sacrifice their right to privacy in the fight against terrorism, a former senior security official warned today. Sir David Omand, the Cabinet Office’s former security and intelligence co-ordinator, said in future the security services would need access to a wide range of personal data, including phone records, emails and travel information. In a research paper on national security strategy, Sir David wrote: “Finding out other people’s secrets is going to involve breaking everyday moral rules”.’

Pilotless planes used to track the Taliban could soon be hovering over our streets, it has emerged.

Remote-controlled drones are already used widely by the military. Now ministers believe they are likely to become ‘increasingly useful’ for police work.

Armed with heat-seeking cameras, the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles would hover hundreds of feet in the air, gathering intelligence and watching suspects.

In theory, their advantages are clear. They are cheaper and quieter than conventional helicopters, can circle their target for hours without refuelling - and they don’t get bored on long surveillance missions.

However, their use is likely to further fuel concerns about our march towards a Big Brother state. Britain already has more CCTV cameras than the rest of Europe put together.

Mr Straw said he could not permit the release of records from 2003 discussions over the invasion of Iraq because it would cause too much “damage” to democracy.

He said he had signed a certificate under section 53 of the FOI Act, “the effect of which is that these Cabinet minutes will not now be disclosed”.

Allowing publication to go ahead would cause “serious damage to Cabinet government, an essential principle of British democracy”.

Mr Straw told the Commons he had consulted with the rest of the Cabinet before issuing the veto, and the decision had not been taken “lightly”.

It is the first time the ministerial veto has been used since the FOI Act came into force in 2005.

Liberal Democrat MP Sir Menzies Campbell said the decision was “profoundly disappointing.”

“This is a Government which when introducing measures to limit personal freedom says that those that have nothing to hide should have nothing to fear,” he said.

“If the process of reaching the decision to embark upon an illegal war against Iraq is still supported by the Government why haven’t they the courage to let us see the minutes of the Cabinet?

“The truth is that this was one of the most significant foreign affairs decisions in history which a supine Cabinet nodded through.”

Friday morning I was expecting to hear from Paul after exchanging a number of
e-mails during the week about the 1989 Cheesefoot Head sound analysis
he did
for me.  I was looking out for his anticipated message when I received an e-mail
from Kerry McKenna with Paul’s name in the subject line.  Instead of the reply I
was expecting from Paul it was the shocking news that his body had been
washed up in the English Channel at Southsea, near where he lived.

Like many of my research colleagues and friends I am deeply shocked and upset
at this terrible loss.’

Two out of three Britons back the idea of compulsory community service for young people, a poll has found.

A civic programme would find useful work for millions who would otherwise face mass unemployment in a deepening recession, many believe.

The survey also uncovered widespread fears that the energies and talents of jobless teenagers and twenty-somethings need to be harnessed to avoid the danger of rioting and unrest.

senior police chief has already admitted that officers are preparing for a ’summer of rage’ as victims of the credit crunch take to the streets to demonstrate against banks.

Superintendent David Hartshorn, who heads Scotland Yard’s public order unit, said bonus-paying banks had become ‘viable targets’. He added: ‘Suddenly there is the opportunity for people to mass protest.’

The poll was conducted by Prospect magazine to gauge support for a plan backed by influential Labour MP Frank Field for a ‘national citizenship programme’.

Under the scheme, everyone would have to spend a year between the ages of 16 and 25 in low-paid community work, either in schools, children’s centres and residential homes or on housing or parks projects.

The poll, carried out by YouGov among 2,270 people, found 64 per cent supported the compulsory citizenship work idea.

Among those aged between 18 and 30, the scheme still had the support of 52 per cent.

More than a third feared riots similar to those experienced by Greece in December.

And nearly three quarters agreed with the statement that there will be mass unemployment ‘for many years to come’.

‘As bonuses have been cut amid public anger over the banking crisis, it is predicted that city salaries could more than double over the next few years. Shaun Springer, chief executive of executive search firm Napier Scott Napier, said bankers are trying to make up for less generous bonuses through higher salaries.’

David Miliband is obviously totally unbiased as seen in this picture

‘Anti-Semitism has become such a problem that the Foreign Office welcomed nearly 100 legislators from 35 countries to a conference this week aimed at tackling the issue. The inaugural conference of the Inter-parliamentary Coalition for Combating Anti-Semitism (ICCA) is the first of its kind to receive such prominent Government support.

The two-day summit was held in the Houses of Parliament and at Lancaster House. The Foreign Secretary, David Miliband, said: “Anti-Semitism has been with us for millennia, but has mutated in form and expression through the ages. Today it has adapted to new technologies and has no defined borders”.’

It is thought to be the first time that a former British prime minister has launched a money-spinning venture based entirely around their experience at the helm of government. The firm is the latest scheme employed by the 55-year-old to cash in on his record as Britain’s longest-serving Labour prime minister.’

Last Saturday marked the day in 1952 when the wartime ID card was abandoned by the British State after Harry Willcock, a dry cleaner from North London, was stopped for a traffic offence and asked by a policeman for his card. He refused on the grounds that it was an affront to his personal liberty.

The case went to appeal where Lord Chief Justice Goddard said: “From what we have been told it is obvious that the police now, as a matter of routine, demand the production of a national registration card whenever they stop or interrogate a motorist for whatever cause. This act was passed for security purposes: it was never intended for the purposes for which it is now being used.”

That is very much the point that has been made all along by NO2ID, one of the most brilliantly organised campaigns to emerge in Britain in the past 50 years. Owing to its grasp of the issues and unstinting scrutiny, opposition to the card is mounting. The TUC has passed a motion against the card; airline pilots, many of whom say they would rather lose their job than be forced to carry a card as an “airside worker” are taking legal action; Worcestershire county council has announced that it will oppose the scheme wherever it is lawful; and most devastatingly the Scottish government has called for the cancellation of the scheme.

“In the midst of a deep recession, with more job losses announced nearly every day, it simply beggars belief that the UK government is pressing ahead with its costly National Identity Scheme,” said Fergus Ewing the Scottish minister for community safety.

The ID card is not dead in the water yet but here is another story – from a reader who wishes to remain anonymous – which demonstrates why it should be. (Incidentally, it is a sign of things to come that people are so afraid of the Home Office and UK Borders agency that they will not allow their names to be used.)

‘A shocking new report alleges widespread complicity between British security agents and their Pakistani counterparts who have routinely engaged in the torture of suspects. In the study, which will be published next month by the civil liberties group Human Rights Watch, at least 10 Britons are identified who have been allegedly tortured in Pakistan and subsequently questioned by UK intelligence officials.

It warns that more British cases may surface and that the issue of Pakistani terrorism suspects interrogated by British agents is likely to “run much deeper”.’

In May, 2008, the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) predicted that the North Pole would be ice-free during the 2008 melt season because of ‘global warming.’

Today, they admitted that they’ve underreported Arctic ice extent by 193,000 square miles (500,000 square kilometers). They blamed the error on satellite problems and sensor drift.

And we’re supposed to trust these people?

              193,000 square miles!

That’s the size of Maine, Vermont, Maryland, Massachusetts, New
York, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Rhode Island,
and West Virginia combined! And toss in Washington, D.C. for
              good measure.

Let’s watch the newspapers. If a pimple of ice smaller than a city
should break off an ice sheet, they’d holler to the high heavens.
But do you think they’ll report this discovery of ‘lost’ ice the size
              of 10 states?

Some days ago I was able to speak with Dr. Tammam Kelani, the President of Arab-Austrian Federation of Doctors and Pharmacists, who had just returned from Germany after participating in a Congress of the Federation of Arab Doctors in Europe.

I was thinking to speak with him about the humanitarian conclusions from that congress, in which the participants declared the 28 March 2009 as a day of solidarity with the children of Gaza in all of Europe, and to write about the activities of his association in support of the Palestinians in Gaza affected by the Israeli criminality. But the conversation with the doctor turned out to be far more interesting than what I expected.

Dr. Kelani shocked and surprised me when he accidentally exposed the scandalous collusion of the EU with Israel to keep humanitarian volunteers and medical relief workers and resources donated by private organizations and individuals throughout Europe, out of Gaza. He related to me information which I believed only when he gave me several documents (reproduced below).

‘The Prime Minister is to unveil a series of key measures that will see the Government insure the ‘toxic assets’ of major lenders and pump around 14 billion pounds into the mortgage market through Northern Rock. On Thursday, the Treasury is expected to announce plans to form a “toxic bank”, using taxpayers’ money to insure 500 billion pounds of bad debt.

In addition, Mr Brown has signalled that he wants a return to more ’sober’ banking practices, with a possible ban on 100 per cent mortgages to ensure people must save a deposit before buying a house.’

At the end of the 19th Century, the Catholic church organized massive resistance to Illuminati Jewish domination of national life.  The Illuminati instigated World War One  partly to crush and punish a recalcitrant Europe.

Lenin defined “peace” as the end of all forms of resistance to Communist (i.e. Illuminati Jewish) despotism.

After WWI and WWII, the League of Nations and the UN both promised world government to prevent war. Indeed, Illuminati globalists always promise this–but we don’t realize they are blackmailing us. They start the wars in the first place.

The Elders of Zion vowed to harass the nations with corruption and strife until they accepted their “Superstate”  (i.e. world government tyranny.)

“The recognition of our despot may also come …when the peoples, utterly wearied by the irregularities and incompetence - a matter which we shall arrange for - of their rulers, will clamor: “Away with them and give us one king over all the earth who will unite us and annihilate the causes of disorders - frontiers, nationalities, religions, State debts - who will give us peace and quiet which we cannot find under our rulers and representatives.” (emphasis mine, Protocols of Zion, 10-18)

Of course, this also applies to the current economic depression. Right on cue, Henry Kissinger, CEO of the NWO, tells us: “the alternative to a new international order is chaos.”  The “E” in CEO stands for Extortion. “Please Mr. Kissinger, give back our prosperity. We’ll agree to anything.”

We are in the eighth inning of a long term conspiracy and must shake off our complacency. This is not another recession; it is a final life-and-death power grab.  A satanic cult, the Illuminati, has subverted all nations and religions and now is moving to consolidate its power. Our “leaders” (including Obama) belong to this cult. From their past record (in Russia & China), it is possible to predict the future: Conditions will deteriorate. There will be civil unrest. An assassination or some other contrived terror will result in war or martial law. Anyone who has expressed opposition to their agenda, — patriots, Christians, “anti Semites” — will be put into concentration camps and possibly murdered. The war and suffering will be such that the masses will accept the Illuminati’s sugar coated tyranny. I hope I am wrong.

The Illuminati were founded by Cabalistic Jewish bankers like the Rothschilds who used “anti Semitism” to brainwash and empower other Jews as their agents. But, as we have seen, they will sacrifice these Jews to achieve their aims.

They are Freemasons –both Jews and non-Jews– who want to hog all the world’s wealth, cull the human race, enslave it mentally and spiritually, if not physically. They have been conspiring for thousands of years and we have the honor of seeing their endgame. They are a hydra headed monster-operating under many facades but today the main ones are socialism, communism, liberalism, feminism, zionism and neo conservatism.

Britain’s most powerful policing organisation has set up a private company to cash in on its own orders to send speeding drivers on retraining courses.

The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) has told all police forces that from April hundreds of thousands of motorists should be sent on Speed Awareness Schemes rather than receiving penalty points and fines.

At the same time it has set up a new company which will earn millions of pounds running the only database recording which motorists are eligible for ‘retraining’.

ACPO is already under fire after The Mail on Sunday disclosed that, despite setting police policy on everything from anti-terrorism to speed cameras, it is a private company - dubbed Police Chiefs PLC by this newspaper - with an annual income, mostly funded by the taxpayer, of £18million.

Now it is set to earn an estimated £5million a year checking speeding drivers’ eligibility for the national Driver Offender Retraining Scheme.

OUR GREATEST FOUNDING FATHER and first president, George Washington, probably wouldn’t be ready to celebrate his birthday on Feb. 22 if he were alive today. Having led the 13 colonies to independence from the British Empire in 1783, following the course of a difficult eight-year struggle by those freedom-loving American colonists who followed him, Washington (who lived from 1732 to 1799) would most assuredly be appalled to see that the liberties achieved from the American Revolution are now being flagrantly defied by a number of figures who populate the upper ranks of the administration of Barack Obama.

Six former Rhodes Scholars (educated at Oxford University in Britain) and four others associated with the London School of Economics are serving in key posts in the Obama administration. That’s not good.

Here are 10 of the key “British”—that is, Rothschild —operatives now ensconced in the Obama administration (more can be expected):

Susan Rice—ambassador to the UN; Michael McFaul—head of the Russian desk at the National Security Council; Elena Kagan—solicitor general of the United States; Anne-Marie Slaughter—State Department policy planning staff; Neal S.Wolin—deputy counsel to the president for economic policy; Ezekial Emanuel—senior counselor at the White House Office of Management and Budget on health care policy; Lawrence Summers—head of the National Economic Council; Peter Orszag—director of the Office of Management and Budget; Peter Rouse—senior advisor to the president; Mona Sutphen—deputy chief of the White House staff.

The truth about the Rhodes Scholarships is not known to the average American who is constantly told by the mass media that Rhodes Scholars (such as former President Bill Clinton) are among “the best and the brightest.”

PARENTS should avoid trying to convince their teenage children of the difference between right and wrong when talking to them about sex, a new government leaflet is to advise.

Instead, any discussion of values should be kept “light” to encourage teenagers to form their own views, according to the brochure, which one critic has called “amoral”.

Talking to Your Teenager About Sex and Relationships will be distributed in pharmacies from next month as part of an initiative led by Beverley Hughes, the children’s minister.

Ministers have blown almost £1billion axing an army of bureaucrats - only to rehire the same huge number.

Government departments have cut almost 15,000 civil servants in the last three years, according to figures released by Parliament.

Because of the generous redundancy packages given to Whitehall officials, the average payout was £60,000 - a total cost to the public purse of £882million.

But despite the cull of Government waste, it can be revealed that ministries are taking on almost as many staff as they have ditched.

Figures from just five departments - including the Home Office and Department of Health - show that about 5,000 permanent, temporary and agency staff have been taken on.

If this is extended across all Government departments, the number of new staff will be around 15,000.

Hundreds of civil servants have walked away with pay-offs worth tens of thousands of pounds, with some taking £100,000.

Most of those taking voluntary redundancy are high earners - sparking fears the most experienced staff are disappearing from Whitehall.

A Cabinet Office spokesman said Whitehall had made annual efficiency savings of £26.5billion.

He said: ‘The civil service continues to meet the challenge of doing more with less, becoming leaner while remaining the driving force behind the excellent public service available to all.’

Big Brother CCTV cameras are to be fitted inside shops and supermarkets on the orders of the state to keep track on anybody buying alcohol.

A law is being quietly pushed through Parliament giving councils the power to order licensed premises to fit the surveillance cameras. Pubs will also be covered.

The footage of people innocently buying a bottle of wine in a shop or a pint of beer in a bar must be stored for at least 60 days, and be handed over to the police on demand.
